January's Kidical Mass ride will start at Westmoreland Park and end up at Oaks Park Roller Rink. The ride, as always, will be at a kid's pace and provide camaraderie, group bike riding protocol, and show your kids that riding a bike and riding it in the street is part of life.
Meet up at Westmoreland is 1:00 pm.
The ride itself will be about 2 miles through quiet streets with only two arterial street crossings. These arterial crossings will show how to safely make it across a larger street. The ride will be one way, families leaving Oaks Park when best suits them.
Read, Print, and share a flyer for January's ride.
This Year is going to be a great year for Kidical Mass Portland. Over the last couple of years, attendance has dropped and the organizing of the rides was left up to the whimsy of hope. Enter one Katie Proctor and her organizing and we are set for they year. All you need to do is show up. The list of days, neighborhood location, and leader is at the end of this post. See a place where you can add in a ride or co-lead? Super. Contact Katie Proctor or put a comment on this post and I will hook you up.
The organized focus of this year is exciting and I look forward to the renewed energy of Portland's greatest kid & bike experience.
For more information on Kidical Mass Portland, check out the website. I highly recommend that you (a) sign up for the email list while on the website, and (b) the twitter feed.
Why you should attend ... be part of building your community. Bike usage will increase if people increase it. You already understand the benefits of bike usage, but do your kids? Will your kids continue riding their bikes when they are teenagers? Be part of creating the mindset.
