My Sons

I am blessed with 4 wonderful sons. I know that all fathers say that, and all fathers are correct in that statement.

On the left is Soren, then Asa, then Kael (in the back), then Asha.

This photo was taken during our KidicalMass January ride.

I find this photo striking and completely unexpected. I did not frame it, and did not plan it as such. The KidicalMass group was gathering for a group photo and I saw an opportunity to take a photo of all my sons within the same frame--this happens much less than you would think.

I like the way they are standing, ready for our ride. It is a cold, wet day and they are not bothered. They are game! Part of the Wittwer Way is to be a team. We are doers, not complainers.

I like the way their bikes are poised, ready to roll out on our ride. The bikes have a ready-to-pounce look; I am lucky I made it out alive.

I like the way they are hanging out with each other. This happens, but as they get older, they have more individual tastes and it is during events like this that I see them join as brothers.

I like the tree rising up from the back. My wife, Ruhiyyih, likes tress, especially artwork that has trees. The tree in this photo could be growth, a family tree, a symbol of stability and strength, or just a good background.

I like that each kid's personality is present in the photo. Soren, age 8, has his golden curls cascading from underneath his helmet. Asa, age 6, is the fastest and strongest biker of the group; he has his jacket sleeves pulled over his hands to block the wind. Kael, age 11, is wearing shorts. He always wears shorts. Asha, age 10, is totally bundled up, dreaming of stop-motion films to create.

These are a good bunch of boys.
